Celebrated Veteran’s day. To all those who brought their courage and loyalty to the table to fight for our freedom.
And no, this was not my beer.
Happy Birthday Desiree Morimoto!
On Thursday, I celebrated my love’s 22nd birthday! We went to a local bar called Single Barrel.
This drink is called “Cat’s Pajamas.” When you walk in, they ask you what kind of alcoholic beverage you like. I told her not so much of an alcoholic taste. More fruity. More like a smoothie, but not really. hahaha. I have really bad descriptions. Based on that information, she whipped up a drink a for us. I’m not much of a drinker, either.
Asians get the asian glow (your face turning all red) because asians genetically have less of ALDH, an enzyme necessary to break down alcohol when being metabolized in the body.
The drink in the cup is Hennessy from my friend Alvin for my 22nd birthday.
Making sake depends on a special type of rice. There are about 80 different types of sake rice. The rice is longer, stronger, and has less protein than the typical edible ones. Instead of using natural sugar found in fruits/food to produce the alcohol, sake depends on the rice carbohydrate, starch, to be broken down to alcohol. (wiki)
I believe that this brand of sake still does it the “traditional” way so it takes them “forever” to produce sake.
For those who never tasted sake before, it goes down clean/smooth!
At my best friend’s grad bbq, her bf made a mudslide.
It consisted of:
Kahlua
Mint chocolate chip icecream (my favorite)
Mudslide from TGIF
Ice
(I think that’s it) he blended it together, and bestie made the chocolate design, and VOILA…
IT was delicious!!
There’s an enzyme called LDLH2 that breaks down alcohol? There’s a genetic disorder in which it doesn’t produce this enzyme so it can’t process the alcohol you consume.
An amish fellow partied to hard and died from consuming too much alcohol because he didn’t know he had a genetic disorder.
Currently watching 1000 ways to die. Very intriguing. If you want to, check it out on Spike TV
You know what’s my second favorite restaurant? Bubba Gump!
I don’t know why. Maybe it’s because of the atmosphere how it’s so hopeful, motivational, and just by the ocean. Every single one I’ve been to has an ocean view of the ocean. It makes me feel like I was in the movie Forres Gump (which is by the way, one of my favoritest movie)
So, I wanted to keep my 21st birthday a tradition and thus, we headed off to Bubba Gump in San Francisco. I’ve been to the one in Monterey and in Hawai’i and I’m determined to go to all the Bubba gumps out there! :] hehe. This one in SF was pretty cool. We spotted some guy rowing his boat and it brought back kayaking memories..Or it was just funny to even look at…that’s another story
anyways, we wanted to get the teaser because of the shaker..haha..:] and then Nam got me another alcoholic beverage. SO good and didn’t even taste like alcoholic

September 4- Andretti Winery
We went to the winery for my 21st birthday (14th birthday) and tried different types of wine. We had white and red wine. I realized that day that wine ain’t my thing.
The difference between white and red wines is not the grapes but the process. For red wines, they incorporate the skin back into the liquid which gives it the red color. White wines don’t have the skin back into the liquid.
Wine tasting is an acquired taste..I obviously don’t have that acquired taste bud because, I didn’t like it at all. But you’re suppose to swirl it around and capture all the oxygen to bring out the flavor..I think it’s called vigorating oxygen? I forget (someone please remind me) Then you waft it and smell it and then taste it. The first taste will be harsh, but after the first taste it’s good. I wish we got some food to eat with the wines though, I heard it brings out the flavor.
After visiting this winery, I have more wine appreciation. It’s such a food science and time consuming process. It’s like an artpiece. It takes so much time and effort and patience to make such beautiful wine. Every little detail matters. That’s what I got out of my wine trip.
My friends sure seemed like they had a good time tasting wine and such and experiencing it. Thank you andretti winery for hosting us!
